By Decision 2002/648/EC, the Council approved the conclusion of the Agreement for scientific and technological cooperation between the European Community and the Government of the Republic of India. That Agreement was signed in New Delhi on 23 November 2001 and entered into force on 14 October 2002. By Decision 2009/501/EC, the Council approved the conclusion of an Agreement renewing the Agreement for scientific and technological cooperation between the European Community and the Government of the Republic of India, which renewed and slightly modified the Agreement signed in 2001. It was signed in New Delhi on 30 November 2007 and entered into force on 17 May 2010. That Agreement together with the Agreement signed in 2001 are referred to as the Agreement.
