National penalty point schemes, under which a holder of a driving licence loses or accumulates points in relation to the commission of certain offences, are not addressed by this Directive. Member States adopt different approaches, such as imposing stricter measures immediately or focusing on targeted enforcement and prevention campaigns. When carrying out its review of this Directive, the Commission should assess how to improve road safety and facilitate Member States in tackling multiple challenges, without prioritising any specific approach.
