The Facility should ensure consistency with, and support for, the general objectives of Union external action as laid down in Article 21 TEU, including respect for fundamental rights as enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. In particular, it should ensure the protection and promotion of human rights, and the rule of law.
