Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council addresses microplastic pollution by imposing a restriction on the placing on the market of microplastics that are intentionally added to products, as considerable microplastic pollution arises from the use of synthetic polymer microparticles on their own or when intentionally added to products, and such pollution poses an unacceptable risk to the environment.
