The Authority for European political parties and foundations (the Authority) is a body of the Union within the meaning of Article 263 of the TFEU whose purpose is to register, control and impose sanctions on European political parties and European political foundations. Registration should be required in order to obtain European legal status, which entails a series of rights and obligations. To avoid any possible conflict of interests, the Authority should be independent.
