The communication of the Commission of 11 December 2019 on the European Green Deal sets high ambitions for enabling the transition towards a toxic-free environment and zero pollution. The strategy set out in the communication of the Commission of 14 October 2020 entitled Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability Towards a Toxic-Free Environment is a crucial step towards achieving zero pollution and introduces the one substance, one assessment approach, which aims to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, coherence, and transparency of safety assessments of chemicals across Union legal acts.
