European statistics on population and housing play a central role in policy-making and decision-making processes and are therefore necessary for the design, implementation and evaluation of Union policies, in particular policies addressing demographic change and the green and digital transitions, policies related to the framework for the promotion of energy efficiency, economic, social and territorial cohesion, and policies related to the principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights, as well as those necessary for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda in so far as they fall within the scope of this Regulation.
