In its communication of 14 October 2020 entitled Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability, the Commission called for strengthening the protection of consumers from the most harmful chemicals and for extending the generic approach, based on generic preventive prohibitions, towards harmful chemicals to ensure that consumers, vulnerable groups and the environment are more consistently protected. In particular, the strategy commits to strengthening Directive 2009/48/EC with regard to protection from risks arising from the most harmful chemicals and possible combination effects of chemicals.
