The administrative burden linked to the verification could be disproportionate for smaller enterprises and it should therefore be avoided. To that end, SMEs should be exempted from the requirements related to the verification, unless those SMEs wish to obtain a proof of compliance. In addition, large enterprises should take into account the principle of proportionality when considering requesting the verification of conformity from value chain partners, in particular from SMEs.
