ATM network functions should contribute to the sustainable development of the air transport system and support the achievement of Union-wide performance targets. They should lead towards the sustainable, efficient and environmentally optimal use of airspace and of scarce resources, reflect operational needs in the deployment of the European ATM network infrastructure and should provide support in the event of network crises.
