The procedures to be followed by European political parties and their affiliated European political foundations when they apply for funding from the general budget of the Union should be laid down, as well as the procedures, criteria and rules to be respected when deciding on the grant of such funding. In that context, the European political parties and foundations should in particular comply with the principle of sound financial management.
