Directive (EU) 2024/1640 ensures that persons with a legitimate interest are granted access to beneficial ownership information, in accordance with data protection rules. For the purpose of tracing assets in the context of ongoing insolvency proceedings, insolvency practitioners should be granted access in a timely manner to specific categories of beneficial ownership information held in the interconnected central beneficial ownership registers, such as on the name, month and year of birth, the country of residence and nationality of the beneficial owner, as well as the nature and extent of beneficial interest held.
