The Commission has stated its intention that in view of its planned revision of Regulation (EU) 2016/796, it will assess the feasibility and possible benefits of extending ERA competence to railway infrastructure capacity. The assessment could include considerations of using existing ERA competences on sector-wide consultation processes, in particular when establishing secondary legislation, as well as a supporting role in facilitating independent performance monitoring and an assessment of the budgetary implications.
