Disparities in bargaining power between suppliers and buyers of agricultural and food products persist in food supply chains across the Union. This is particularly the case in relation to agricultural products, due to their perishable nature to a greater or lesser extent. Member States should therefore take all appropriate action to ensure that measures taken to implement the food waste reduction targets set out in this Directive do not result in a reduction of the bargaining power of suppliers of agricultural products or in an increase of unfair trading practices towards such suppliers, prohibited under Directive (EU) 2019/633 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
