The protection of natural persons in relation to the processing of their personal data is a fundamental right. In accordance with Article 8(1) of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and Article 16(1) TFEU, individuals have a right to the protection of personal data relating to them. The relevant Union legislative acts, namely Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council and Directive (EU) 2016/680 of the European Parliament and of the Council, should apply to the processing of personal data in the context of this Directive in accordance with their respective scope of application.
